We’re currently in the process of producing the publication that will be the end result of my research into Louise Lawler’s 1979 project A Movie Will Be Shown Without the Picture, which I did in the context of If I Can’t Dance’s “Performance in Residence” program. In addition to an essay by me and three shorter texts by recently graduated art historians, there will be a trove of visual documents pertaining to A Movie and related works. Shown here is one of a number of “film still grids” made by Lawler over the years, usually in the context of A Movie.
The book should be out in October.
